The Indian crossover segment is one of the most flourishing segments across the most established ones. The traditional hatchbacks and SUV have given rise to this newer segment, the crossovers, which are basically limited in size like the hatchbacks and have the ruggedness and power of SUVs. Starting from the smaller Toyota Etios Cross to bigger Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, most of the automakers have such crossover plying on the road already.
Ford Motor Company already has the bigger EcoSport going great guns in the market. But that hasn’t stopped the company from working on a newer crossover, which is the upcoming Figo Cross. Based on the standard Figo hatchback, the crossover is rougher than the standard car. In fact, the Figo Cross is expected to make its first appearance at the 2018 Auto Expo and could be launched soon after.
Though you will find almost all the details of the new Ford Figo Cross on Autoportal.com, let’s take the first step towards knowing the newest crossover in town.
The upcoming Ford Figo Cross has been spied on the tests just outside the company’s production facility at Sanand. The car carries a very sharp look and looks sleeker than the current generation of the Figo hatchback. It gets a sleek front grille with mesh inserts which reminds us of the powerful Ford Mustang. Of course, the lowered hood and the bumper gets a gentle glimpse of the muscle car, though the resemblance is as faint as nothing. The roof rails and the outer rear view mirrors get a grey touch while the headlamps take the smoked-blacked colour. There isn’t much cladding around the body except the wheel arches, which gets thin cladding lines.
Much of the details about the new Ford Figo Cross is not known as the company has not revealed the car in public. However, looking at the way the company is presently presenting its cars, especially sporty ones, we can expect the crossover to get a new upholstery, which along with the addition of the Ford SYNC3 touchscreen infotainment system, which has just made its way into the new generation EcoSport.
The Ford Figo Cross will be getting the regular 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine which can produce a highest power of 99 bhp at 3,750 revs per minute along with a peak torque of 205 Nm at just 1,750 revs per minute.
However, what is more exciting is to see is the choice of the petrol models. The new Figo Cross should be getting the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated, three-cylinder petrol engine which powers the current EcoSport as well. The petrol motor makes 121 bhp of peak power at 6,500 revs per minute along with 150 Nm torque at 4,500 revs per minute. As for the transmission, we are just expecting to see the 5-speed manual gearbox unit, which is the case with most of the crossovers in India.
This is the newest crossover
The all-new Ford Figo is set to be the latest crossover to hit the Indian market once it makes the debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. The launch is also expected to commence soon after and it would be interesting to see how Ford Motor Company prices the car.
Presently, the Indian crossover market has good quality cars like the Tata Nexon, Honda WR-V, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Toyota Etios Cross. Though the Figo Cross should be the most powerful car among its competitors, the competitive pricing in the domestic market will be playing a crucial role here, for sure.
