A Brand new SUV Kona from Hyundai is all set to launch in 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Media report suggesting Hyundai Kona Electric May launch in India in 2018. Hyundai dropped the plan to launch hybrid and mild hybrid vehicle due to tax problem and this occurs due to recently introduced GST.

Now Hyundai wants to focus on electric vehicle bypassing hybrid and mild hybrid to full fill the GOVT of India vision to go electric by 2030. the moves seem reasonable as in GST hybrid vehicles have been taxed at 43 percent, while EVs have been taxed at a lower rate of 12 percent. “Post implementation of GST, the benefits towards mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid vehicles are continuously decreasing. So, at present, we are evaluating an electric vehicle instead of a hybrid,” Y K Koo, managing director and CEO, Hyundai Motor India told Autocar India.
Hyundai Kona features a fresh and modern design with a range of technology including revised infotainment system and heads up display which is considered first for the Hyundai cars. Also, the new Kona will have Hyundai’s signature cascading grille and two layers LED head lamps with daytime running lights.
Though Kona electric a is focus for india, globally this suv will be available with range of petrol engines as well as Hyundai’s next-generation diesel engine.
